  • POLICY ADVOCACY

Policy advocacy also known as legal advocacy or advocacy through the courts – uses the judicial system to advance social change goals. This is often done by bringing forward a legal case in court that focuses on improving a situation for a particular group of disadvantaged people.

  1. Consumer Protection:

  • Targeting and preventing predatory and abusive lending practices aimed at the low-income population by teaching consumers how to avoid these pitfalls and increasing income and capital

  • Preserving necessary transportation by stopping abusive and fraudulent used vehicle sales, financing and illegal repossessions

  • Protecting consumers from abusive debt collection and debt buyer practices

  • Preserving utility services Assisting consumers with problematic student loans, especially in the “for-profit” school sector.

Domestic violence protection:

Our Center for Legal Advocacy protects people who are victims of exploitation and violence, including domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking and other violent crimes, by ensuring their access to the civil and criminal court systems.

   Healthcare access:

 

  • Accessing quality healthcare for children and their parents in low- and moderate-income families through Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program and implementation of health reform

  • Improving healthcare and income support for seniors and people living with disabilities, with a focus on issues involving Social Security, SSI, Medicaid and Medicare, and on improving mental health and developmental disability services, access to in-home services, care in nursing and rest homes, access to community-based care, services to people living with HIV/AIDS, and managed care

Income security:

 

  • Our Center for Legal Advocacy promotes economic security, mobility and opportunity to end the cycle of poverty, empowering families to build wealth and prepare for the future.

  • The economic security and well-being of many families is contingent on their access to services and benefits that supplement health, food and income. For some, including people with disabilities, seniors and non-English speakers, obstacles can hinder their access to these critical services and benefits.

Tax disputes:

 

  • Providing legal representation to low-income taxpayers who have existing tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service and, in certain instances, the Department of Revenue Providing tax assistance and education to individuals who speak English as a second language.

  • HR POLICY ADVOCACY

 

The legal and Policy Advocacy project engages with international and regional human rights bodies and other international organizations, international and domestic courts to promote understanding of and respect for human rights law.

Human rights advocacy generally involves documentation of rights violations and propagating recommendations for remedying those violations. ... A report was then generated, using a human rights framework to document the scientific evidence of violations.

 

Right to Life:

 

The Right to Life is enshrined in article nine (9) of the constitution of the Islamic    Republic of Pakistan. “No person shall be deprived of life” Every Pakistani has   the right to live and this means that ‘nobody, including the Government, can try to end your life’. It also means that the Government of Pakistan has a constitutional obligation to take appropriate measures to safeguard life.

Right to Freedom of Speech:

The Right to Freedom of Speech is enshrined in article nineteen (19) of the constitution of the Islamic republic of Pakistan. “Every citizen shall have the right to freedom of speech and expression, and there shall be freedom of the press, subject to any reasonable restrictions imposed by law in the interest of the glory of Islam or the integrity” security or defence of Pakistan or any part thereof friendly relations with foreign States, public order, decency or morality, or in relation to contempt of court, (commission of) or incitement to an offence.
